KL Rahul Meets LSG Owner Sanjiv Goenka IPL Retention Talks Again Momentum

KL Rahul Meets LSG  Owner Sanjiv Goenka

As the discussion over india premier league retention intensified, Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul visited the franchise's Kolkata office on Monday for a meeting with owner Sanjiv Goenka's. The meeting held at Goenka's office on Judge's Court Road, Alipore, lasted for about an hour.

The meeting was the first formal conversation between Rahul and Goenka's after their animated conversation after the defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 8.

Although the specifics of the discussion have not been disclosed, Cricbuzz understands that the meeting centered around the team structure and the possible retention of Rahul. Whether or not the franchise will be able to retain the India wicketkeeper-batsman will be known soon, but the fact that Rahul called the owner could be an indication of that. Speculations about Rahul's possible return to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) remain unconfirmed.

And the dynamics of the auction are such that there is no guarantee that a franchise can buy the player it is looking to buy with certainty.

For the record, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to announce an official retention policy, and it is unclear how many players each team will be allowed to retain. Additionally, the Right to Match (RTM) option is another factor that can influence the franchise's decision around top retention.

Rahul's visit comes amid reports of the franchise planning to bring in Zaheer Khan as a mentor, which was first reported by Cricbuzz on August 19. The appointment of the former India fast bowler as a mentor is expected to be confirmed soon, with Zaheer likely to take up the role. Along with Justin Langer, who will continue in his role as head coach.

Rahul has played three seasons for LSG, all seasons as captain. He was part of India's ODI team that recently toured
SriLanka and will soon be seen competing in the Duleep Trophy in Bengaluru, where he will represent Team A, captained by Shubman Gill.
