Rashid Khan Rested For New Zealand Test
The Afghanistan Cricket Board on Monday (August 26) said they have rested Rashid Khan for the upcoming one-match Test series against New Zealand as he is yet to regain the top fitness required to play longer versions of cricket.
The ACB announced a 20-man preliminary squad for the upcoming Test against New Zealand to be held from September 9-13 in Greater Noida, India.
Rashid was ruled out of The Hundred on August 12 due to a hamstring injury and although he played a few matches in the recently concluded Shpageeza Cricket League (SCL) 2024, the all-rounder is yet to shoulder the burden of Test cricket. Complete recovery is yet to take place. ,
ACB spokesperson Syed Naseem Sadat confirmed, "Rashid was injured recently. He was given three to four weeks' rest and although he played several Shpageeza T20 matches, he is not healthy enough for the longer format. " Cricbuzz on Monday.
"So we will wait for him and we hope he returns for the three-match ODI series against South Africa," he said.
South Africa will take on Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series in the UAE from September 18-22.
Meanwhile, the 20-member contingent will leave for India on August 28 and attend a week-long preparatory camp in Greater Noida.
Selection committee officials said that the final team will be announced at the end of the camp considering the performance and fitness of the players. "20 players have been selected for the training camp and after observing their performance and fitness, a 15-man squad will be selected to play the one-off Test match against New Zealand," ACB chief selector Ahmed Shah Sulimankhel said in a statement Monday.
