England captain Jos Buttler has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 series against Australia due to a right leg injury and could potentially miss the five-match ODI series later this month

Thursday (5 September) England & Wales Cricket Board confirmed Phil Salt has been named acting captain in his absence.

He was expected to recover in time for the white-ball series against Australia, but he could potentially miss the entire English summer if the injury worsens.

Buttler has been out of action since England's semi-final exit at the 2024 T20 World Cup in late June.

Allrounder Jamie Overton has been called up to the T20 squad as a replacement but could play as a pure batsman as he continues to recover from a back stress injury.

Has been included in the ODI unit as cover. Australia, who are currently on a T20I tour of Scotland, are scheduled to play three T20Is against England in Southampton starting September 11.

The ODI series will begin on September 19 at Trent Bridge.
