Trinbago Knight Riders To Winning Start

Carty, Pooran Power Trinbago Knight Riders To Winning Start

Nicholas Pooran's 43-ball 97 and Keacy Carty's unbeaten 73 off 35 balls helped Trinbago Knight Riders post 250/4 - the third-highest team score in the Caribbean Premier League. Although St Kitts and Nevis Patriots put up a challenge and scored more than 200 runs, they still lost easily.

For the Knight Riders, who lost Jason Roy early, Sunil Narine provided the early momentum in the powerplay. With the help of four sixes and three fours, Narine scored 38 of the first 44 runs scored inside the first four overs.

Jason Roy was first victim for Anrich Nortje's after opening the innings. But the Knight Riders were then carried forward by the combative Pooran.

The left-handed batsman did not spare any bowler and went on a hitting spree on a good batting surface. His first three scoring shots were 4,6,6 - against Dominic Drakes who conceded 77 - and then followed it up with a half-century in 21 balls.

Carty joined him in the 8th over. The duo batted explosively from both ends. Carty followed up three dropped catches with Pooran to add 122 runs to his total. Nortje later hit a shot to deep point to get his second wicket, three runs short of a hundred. But Carty still wasn't done, he gave the innings a brilliant finish and the Knight Riders posted 250 - only the third time this has happened in the tournament's history.

In reply, the Patriots were pegged back early by a double strike from Joshua Little, who dismissed both Andre Fletcher and Kyle Mayer's in just the second over.

Evin Lewis and Mikyle Louis led the early resistance in a 54-run partnership. He later scored a half-century and shared a 70-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs before he was dismissed in quick succession. Narine picked up two wickets during this period as the Patriots failed to chase down the target and eventually lost by 44 runs.

Scores Summary: Trinbago Knight Riders 250/4 (Nicholas Pooran 97, Keacy Carty 73*) beat St Kitts & Nevis Patriots 206/8 (Michael Lewis 56; Sunil Narine 2-24) by 44 runs.
